Sheave Pac® Bearing Assembly

The Timken^® Sheave Pac^® bearing assembly provides an innovative maintenance solution for oil and gas drilling rig crown and traveling blocks and riser tensioners. Preset, pre-greased, and unitized, Timken Sheave Pac helps improve employee safety, increase uptime, simplify installation and virtually eliminates maintenance.

Design Attributes

Preset, pre-greased, assembled and sealed at the factory - eliminating the risk of improper bearing setting and contamination and reduces the potential for bearing damage.

Unitized assembly contains the bearing cones, bearing cup, triple-lip seals and grease – simplifying installation.

"Sealed-for-life" design eliminates frequent inspections and re-lubrication – improving employee safety, uptime and productivity.

Dimensionally interchangeable with current industry-standard bearing assemblies and seals, requiring no modification of the sheave bore.

Designed to operate within existing industry-standard snap ring and groove dimensions.

Crown and traveling blocks and riser tensioners - On and Off Shore Oil and Gas Drilling Rigs

Key Features

Optimized bearing cones and double cup - maintains internal geometry of previous designs to maximize radial and thrust load carrying capacity.

Two-element, triple-lip sheave seals - provides triple lip “sealed-for-life” design. Stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance in harsh land and sea environments.

Unitizing ring - unitizes the bearing assembly to simplify and improve the rebuild process.

Bore seal - designed to prevent water and contaminant ingress through the bore of the bearing.

Grease is lithium-based NLGI #2. Temperature range is -40^o F to 300^o F (-40^o C to 149^oC).

Timken SNT Plummer Blocks feature durable cast-iron housing and robust sealing options to keep lubrication in and contamination out. Add in Timken® high-performance spherical roller bearings for a metric split block housed unit that delivers performance in the toughest environments.

Timken SNT Plummer Blocks are available in two- and four-bolt mounting configurations. The SNT line features 200, 300, 500 and 600 series housings; 3000 and 3100 series are available for larger sizes.

Shaft size range: 20 mm to 380 mm, cast steel and ductile iron housings available for severe duty applications.

Adaptor Sleeve

The adapter sleeve is typically used when the bearing is on a shaft without a shoulder and needs to be placed properly in a pillow block housing for example. This sleeve uses a hydraulic or mechanical device or nut to tighten the bearing on the sleeve and hydraulic oil injected into the end of the sleeve on larger sizes to release bearing when removing.

The withdrawal sleeve is used when the bearing is installed against a shoulder on the shaft and pushes the bearing against the shoulder while tightening. The advantage of this is the bearing can be installed with the shaft out of the machine since it is pressing against a shoulder, with the adapter sleeve, it would be more difficult to position the bearing with the shaft out of the machine since it is free to move on the shaft until it is tightened.

The choice of which to use will depend on the design of your shaft and how it will be installed. The attached document shows the mounting and dismounting methods of both sleeves and will probably answer many of your questions.
